Crocketteers Meeting: Friday Sept. 25, 2009 – 7:30 PM @ Fox and Hound (Vance Jackson)

Michael Macias on 14 September 2009 in General, Get Together, Meeting

Calling all Crocketteers for our first official meeting. It will take place Friday September 25, 2009 7:30 PM at Fox and Hound (Google Map).

Let’s discuss the future of pro soccer in San Antonio, any ideas, and how to grow our group/brand.

We will have a special guest speaker, Ed Sakiewicz.

 Ed Sakiewics

Ed will discuss MLS in San Antonio and the upcoming Texas Pro Soccer Festival. The festival will bring 4 MLS teams to the Alamo City and Ed will call on the Crocketteers to be a big part of making the festival a success. Who knows? Maybe us Crocketteers will get to meet the likes of Stuart Holden and Brian Ching of the US National Team. To learn more about the festival, please visit the official site at http://www.texasprosoccerfest.com/. Ed has strong MLS relationships including Commissioner Garber and his brother Nick Sakiewicz, CEO & Operating Partner of the Philadelphia Union. Please take a minute to read Ed’s Bio.

  1. I defintely want to go, only problem is i’m in Washington DC at the moment. Now I’m scheduled to be back in San Antonio at about 7:45pm that day. The plan is to hopefully go straight there from the airport. Hopefully I’ll make it and see you guys there!

  5. I am a young student and soccer player myself in houston community college. I and my co-players would like to get an invitation to assisst the meeting for a project i am currently working on which by googling led me to your website. So i was wondering if i could get some information about the meeting in order for us to be present. Thanks

  7. hope the MLS talk gets enough talk. This sounds like Ed wants to promote the festival first and formost, with your help. I realize the festival helps but is seperate. MLS FIRST guys!!!!

  9. Actually antnee I have to disagree with that argument. I had the opportunity to attend the festival in 08 and met Ed and his team. I can tell you first hand that the festival is vitally important in an MLS push for San Antonio, and the team behind the festival (especially Ed) understands this dynamic and has been pushing for an MLS team in SA for 6 years. With the events of the past with Mayor Garza, whether we like it or not, San Antonio is somewhat of a red pariah within the league offices. Having an event like this, showcasing San Antonio’s support for MLS, goes A LONG way in showing the league that SA is for real and a viable market for MLS. I would recommend you go to the event and hear what Ed’s goals are and see what you think.

  11. The Festival will bring MLS teams here. I don’t see how that will hurt our cause.

  13. Cheick, my understanding is that this is our 1st meeting with Ed and in few words he wants to have a “grassroot” side to the idea of bringing a soccer team to San Antonio. He wants to talk to our group and see how we can work together to achieve our goal.

Antnee, the MLS festival is extremely important.
If it is a complete success, it can be shown later as a display of soccer support in San Antonio. It could even be used to try to get MLS “friendly” games in San Antonio.

  15. Cheick, you should have received an email (sent yesterday) from one of our key members. He would have answered your questions concerning our meeting.

  17. Antnee,

You should come down next Friday for the meeting. Honorary Houston Member. :)

  19. Yes indeed, Antnee! Come on down! I don’t bite. Just be weary when I’m on the pitch with my 17 millimeter aluminum studs laced up. ;-)

No, really, in all seriousness though, I have close ties to the Dynamo, especially at the C-level. We love you guys. Dom played for my brother and we are good colleagues. He was gracious in bringing the squad down for the 2008 Texas Pro Soccer Fest and many from the Texian Army came and had a blast.

I will address MLS in some great detail as I briefed Michael and other Crocketteers the other day. The success of the festival does indeed influence our MLS opportunity. The festival IS MLS.

All we do here in SA in all varying forms is important. From my expansion planning efforts working with investors to the grassroots movement of the Crocketteers supporting us, are all of strict importance if we are to be a successful city that intends to compete in the big leagues. I look forward to meeting everyone next week. God bless!

  21. Thanks for the invite guys. Hope this guys for real as you say. As a soccer fan, I would love you guys to be in the league and rivaling my Dynamo. Wish you guys could make a Dynamo game this year and show your colors to the nation. Any word from the Mayor?
