World Cup Wrap up 6/15/10
Chris Hockman on 15 June 2010 in General, World CupNew Zealand V Slovakia:
Moment of the Match:
First Half: Smeltz’s run towards the end of the first half to break through and get a shot on target, deserved a corner but didn’t get it. Proof positive New Zealand were here to play football.
Second Half: The Equalizer for Reed, a great cross in by Smeltz, and a great header from Reed, you can forgive the man for getting a yellow for the celebration
Why was it a draw: It was a midfield battle, and a match like that makes it hard for there to be a clear winner, on top of that the tenacity of New Zealand to not give up ensured that they’d get a point.
Cote D’Ivoire V Portugal
Moment of the Match:
First Half: Cristiano Ronaldo’s strike that hits the post early on. Little did we know this was going to be the story of the game.
Second Half: Long ball comes out to Toure, which he only manages to head across the face of Goal, a good chance, that goes begging.
Why was it a draw: Missed chances were the story of the day, both teams should have played much much better than they did.
Brazil V DPR Korea
Moment of the Match:
First Half: Every time Brazil got the ball and did something silly with it. The Brazilians seemed mroe concerned with showing off their party tricks than actually scoring goals in the first half.
Second Half: Ji’s goal for North Korea, yes it didn’t mean much to the score, but it was some great build up play & great finish, North Korea, can play football, they may lose every game but that goal sent a message.
Why did Brazil win: In the end Brazil’s class was always going to tell, you can’t have the amount of chance Brazil had, and not win the game. But they tried very hard to make that happen
