PRESS RELEASE

SAN ANTONIO – In recent months, Scorpions FC fans suggested team names, helped select the team logo and voted on the winning jersey design, and now they’re being asked to get involved in designing a scarf for the inaugural season of San Antonio’s new pro soccer team.
“Scarves are incredibly important to soccer fans,” said Michael (Hitch) Hitchcock, Scorpions president. “Fans wear them proudly to show strong support for their team.”
The team will begin play next spring in the North American Soccer League (NASL), one step removed from Major League Soccer. Scorpions profits will benefit non-profit Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first ultra-accessible family fun park designed with special-needs individuals of all ages in mind.
Proposed scarf designs can be e-mailed to [email protected]; delivered to the South Texas Area Regional (STAR) Soccer Complex next to Morgan’s Wonderland (Thousand Oaks and Wurzbach Parkway) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; or mailed to STAR Soccer, 5103 David Edwards Drive, San Antonio, TX 78233. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.
A panel of judges from the Scorpions organization will narrow the entries to three finalists, and once again, fans will choose the winner. Those who vote in the “Select Our Inaugural Scarf Design” contest will be entered in a drawing, and the winner chosen at random will receive a package of team gear plus four tickets to a Scorpions game.
“It’s hard to believe we’re just a few months away from the Scorpions taking the field,” said philanthropist Gordon Hartman, leader of Soccer for a Cause that’s bringing professional soccer to San Antonio. “We’re truly delighted with the enthusiastic response we’ve received thus far, and we’re so very grateful to our community and to our sponsors for their support. From the get-go, we’ve tried to involve our community every step of the way.”
It’s believed the Scorpions will be the first team in pro sports history organized for the expressed purpose of helping a non-profit such as Morgan’s Wonderland, Hartman noted. Morgan’s Wonderland admits anyone with a physical or cognitive special need free of charge.
The Scorpions will play their inaugural home-game schedule beginning in April 2012 at North East Independent School District’s Heroes Stadium. That will give ample time for the construction by the 2013 season of Scorpions Community Stadium, a 5,000-seat facility specifically designed for pro soccer and expandable to 10,000 seats.
To reserve their season seat plans, Scorpions fans can visit www.SanAntonioScorpions.com, call toll-free (855) 333-2012 or stop by STAR Soccer between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
