Crocketteers General / General Discussion / IN THE SPIRIT OF ANTONIO DE NIGRIS
|

THE PROPHECY HAS MATERIALIZED Last night my favorite team, Monterrey F.C. crowned its campaign for the 2009 Apertura by having an inspired Aldo De Nigris capitalize on his promise he made to his deceased brother and former team star, Antonio De Nigris, who passed away only 5 days before the start of the 6-match play-off run to the Mexican League title which included an spectacular comeback from a 3-1 halftime deficit to a 4-3 win in the first leg of the grand final. Last night's 2-1 away win was just the crown jewel of the Championship run. It was the 3rd ever championship and second in just 6 years for Monterrey F.C. which has just given all its northern-Mexico and Texas-based fans 2 Christmas presents: The Cup and the announcement by the ownership of the start of construction of the State-of-the-Art 50,000 seat Monterrey Futbol stadium next January and to be complete for opening ceremony sometime in 2011. As a native of the state of Nuevo Leon, I want to be known as the "Monterrey Crocketteer" by my fellows Crocketteers. There are more than 100,000 former Monterrey-area natives living here in the San Antonio area making us probably the most numerous from any region of Mexico. The state motto of Nuevo Leon is latin for "semper ascendens" which means "always forward". ORALE MONTERREY......NO TE RAJES! "Mexico City might be the heart of Mexico, but Monterrey is the engine that keeps it running"

Well, the Houston Dynamo might be nowhere near Dynamo of Kiev in anything: history, titles, past legends, present roster, fame, fan support, stadium, uniform, logo, play level or play style......but they are good enough to make my favorite club in the lowly MLS

Ladies and Gentlemen,
These deals take a long time and are more involved and complex than you think, even on the USL level versus MLS. It needs to be done right, with the right ownership group and team management. Key stakeholders and success elements are essential such as league and municipal support, ideal stadium venue, a grassroots community and movement that is impressive. Be patient all! It takes lots of work. It is essential to focus on building the Crocketteers movement and engaging the youth grassroots community to make a LOUD NOISE!
........So to put it in other words: no pro soccer in San Antonio for all of 2010

Day 10 Now listen guys (and girls), I know this thread will become as boring as hell......but this is the price we all have to pay for the citizens of San Antonio voting for guys like Mr. Phil Hardverga to be the dictator of this city at the wrong place at the wrong time. And 2 years did not seem to do enough damage to the prospect of MLS at the Alamodome......so we all voted again for another 2 years just in case 2 were not enough

Frankly speaking, this football-free life in San Antonio has got me real depressed I know, I feel the same, my doctor started me on PROZAC and a heavy dose of FIFA 10, until the world cup begins. Yeah.....And my own doc recommended me to start attending SA Rampage hockey games and just try to pretend the ice is grass and the players are all kicking the puck and that the puck is bigger, white, and round
